Contact him at:- Walter Vervloesem of IMCS in Antwerp is the author of a book on hatch cover inspections published recently by the Nautical Institute. The book forms part of a nautical accredited 1,5 day training course on hatch covers for operators of class type approved ultrasonic equipment. His next training course will beheld in New Orleans on 15 & 16th December 2003. He saus that the systematic checking of hatch covers with ultrasonic equipment using qualified operators has resulted in a spectacular reduction in claims. New Institute Hull ClausesIn November 2002 the London Market Joint Hull Committee introduced a new set of Hull Clauses known as the International Hull Clauses 1/11/02. (IHC 2002). The IHC 2003 wording includes a number of further improvements in cover, both in the standard and optional clauses, and has clarified some of the difficulties identified with the 2002 version. UNCTAD Conference on E-business, Trade Facilitation and LogisticsYour editor has been invited along as a "resource person" at the UNCTAD Regional Conference on ICT Strategies for Competitiveness and Development in Rio de Janeiro on November 25-27. The aim is to focus on promoting E-business, Trade Facilitation and Logistics in Latin America and the Caribbean. Jan Hoffman whose own e-zine did so much to promote awareness of the transport issues in the region will be there and he has mentioned that UNCTAD has decided "to broaden participation in the conference and to demonstrate how ICTs are being used in practice, UNCTAD and RITLA are pleased to announce that Sessions 2, 3B, 4A, and 6A (see the agenda below) of the conference will be open to online participants".
